Overall, there was some similarities between 1984 and the society we live in today. In 1984, they talk about how their goal is that the world will be emotionless with no attachments or relationships. In today’s society we are surrounded by so much hate that people are starting to be alone and there is no room for relationships. Sometimes it seems this society is so focus on hating on others it doesn’t focus on giving eachother love and compliments. So sadly to say we are slowly go towards the future that George Orwell had predict of humans having no emotions. Another thing is that in 1984 they had a lot of posters plaster through the city to scare the community into not taking risks. In fact, some of the Big Brother posters from 1984 have been altered to Donald Trump’s face. Some may say that he is the Big Brother of today’s society since he is the higher ranking like Big Brother was, but the way the world was being ruled was similar to the Nazis taking over. Even in the book they mention the stylings of Hitler’s ruling. Another similarity I notice is when Winston starts to wonder what the real history is and many people today wonder the exact same question. When we learn about history we question whether we are reading the truth or what the school districts what us to know. We will never be certain if what we are reading is true or false. The only way for us to know the truth is to either hear it from someone who was there in that moment of history or if we were there. Since neither of those can happen we can just assume what the truth is or go looking for it like Winston does.
