In the first chapter they discuss the origin of Caroline and how she comes to Geneva. Her husband was old friends with her dad and after his death they bonded and were married two years later. They had a son Victor but they felt something was missing so they went to visit cottages and found half-clothed hungry babies with no mother. She noticed one different baby who was super thin and decided to take her into the family. The following chapter talks about the baby growing together with Victor. Victor also has strong feelings for her especially since they had to avoid crowds and were each others only friends until he met Henry. Henry was very adventurous and enjoyed romance with composed heroic songs where they can act as knights in the round table. This led to Victor’s interest in reading the Cornelius Agrippa, but his father was disappointed and said the book with filled with false agreements. Even though, his father disapproved he really seemed to enjoy it and was fascinated to learn more which led him to associate with evil forces. In the chapter after he talks about his amazement with the vibes he receives on both sides of evil and good spirits. He uses this to try to understand how it all ties in to the world and the creatures we fear. When he starts to study he starts to believe that what if the world is the opposite than what we paint it to be . In the fourth chapter he takes it to the next level after losing his mother and becoming more independent. He starts to hang out in the areas where bodies decay to understand and visually see the difference. To me that is disgusting and not hygienic but if it goes to learn more of what your beliefs are than I think he really put himself out their to get the answers to what he desired.
