In the beginning of chapter 11 Victor’s creation discusses his experience after he left his apartment. Everything was new and unusual for him that he even struggle adjusting to see the light. The way he describes his experiences is like when a baby is starting to crawl for the first time and grabs things to figure out what it is and where their going. After adjusting to light and the evening versus the night he starts to wander in the woods where he is freezing to death. He doesn’t understand why he doesn’t feel warm like he did at Victor’s apartment which he then realizes that his clothes aren’t enough to keep him warm. In the next chapter he figures out fires keep him warm and learns how to build them and how to control his hunger by looking for berries. After months of being in the woods he stumbles upon a couple of cottages and decides to go near them. When he gets there he smells food and as hungry as he is he grabs the food and causing him to expose himself to the people living there who end up being terrified and running away. As horrible as he felt he stays in the cottage since he has food and feels more warmth there than the woods. In the next chapter he talks about the family he sees who lives right next door and how he is amused to learn of their daily actions. He learns from them that people have emotions and they express it in multiple ways like sighs or smiles. What he can’t understand is how a perfect human like themselves can be sad since they have everything he strives to be. He decides to not confront them and wait to introduce himself when he perfects their language. He knows they will be disgusted and afraid of his appearance but if he comes off as someone who acts like them maybe they will accept him.
