In the beginning of chapter 20 of Frankenstein Victor is debating of continuing his new creation since he is seeing many reasons for it to fail than to succeed. For instance he mentions, “ They might even hate each other; ..she also might turn with disgust from him to the superior beauty of man; she might quit him, and he be again alone.” The sole purpose for her existence is to make the fiend feel happiness and if there is a doubt that it won’t happen and will only lead to more destruction then it is best to stop it all cause. Which is exactly what Victor does and the fiend sees him destroying the process he was making and vows to Victor that, “I will be with you on your wedding-night”, as a threat of vengeance. Victor is not scared of the pain he will receive since he knows it better than creating another creature. However, he worries for Elizabeth and how she will react if she found him lying on the floor dead. One night Victor’s boat leads him off shore and in the middle of nowhere and his boat starts to be filled with water that he assumes this will be where he dies. However he becomes lucky by spotting land, the humans aren’t englishmen but are irish men who don’t react well to strangers who might possess possible threats to their country. In the following chapter Victor is called into questioning and is be accused of murder. When he arrived to the shore a couple minutes before they found a dead body at the exact same spot. Later when they showed him the body it turned out to be his best friend who had just sent him a letter the day before. Henry’s death really affected Victor that , “Life appeared to me as a dream”, he couldn’t come to terms with it that it just didn’t feel like his friend died and it was all a cruel joke. After being locked up for a while his father comes to his rescue and frees him from jail. He feels it is better to be with his loved ones so he can protect them , but who would protect him? He sees these yellow eyes all the time and sometimes they are of Henry his beloved friend and in the night when he sleeps he feels the pressures of being choked for him nowhere is safe. In chapter 22 Elizabeth asks Victor if he is more happy when he isn’t with her and whether he truly wants to marry her. She wants it to be his choice and not a forced one by their parents since she sincerely loves him. He promises he loves her as much and that he will marry her soon. When he goes back to Geneva he marries Elizabeth ten days later and the monster did not appear at the wedding like he thought he would.
