Scarlet Letter

In the Scarlet Letter the main character is first betrayed as Hester, but it is actually the infant named Pearl. As the book progresses Pearl grows older and people call her “Demon spawn.” Some people even suggest she is not human, but a witch instead. Despite all this accusations she is just like any human beings although she is different compared to other girls her age. Since she was able to walk and talk she has had a confidence that is equivalent to her mothers. There is even at one point of the book she is in front of the governor and other high respected authorities such as minister and they ask her “Who made you?” She thought at first it was a trick question for how easy it was to answer and said proudly “Well, my mother of course.” In that community they are very religious so they were very disappointed and concern when they heard her respond they were expecting for her to say the holy father of course. Even as she grew up she never changed her answer and stood by it. For this reason, many people thought of her as odd and very confident like her mother.
