Scarlet Letter

Despite the topics touched upon in the story of The Scarlet Letter it has been compared to other stories such as The Lottery by Shirley Jackson. In the story of The Lottery a woman is the one chosen to be shamed and harassed with stones in the middle of the town.  Which is similar to The Scarlet Letter where Hester is the woman who is placed in center of the town to be shamed and talked badly about. I do not think this was the way to go for both stories even in a bible verse describes a similar scenario. Pharisees bring a woman to Jesus who has been caught with adultery and they suggest to stone her and he replies with, “ Let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”  This reply is a good answer since we have no right to decide whether we stone someone or shame them in front of the town just because they committed a sin. Everyone has commited sins, but they only seem to care more when women are the ones who have committed them. In both stories the women are not given a chance to plead their sincere apologies and ask for forgiveness of their sins they are just sentenced without a thought.
